How PickyScore Works

PickyScore is PickyScan's own editorial assessment of a product — how good it is for the money at its current price. It is not a rating provided or endorsed by Amazon, and it is not a merchant's own star rating. It is our view, and this page explains the factors behind it.

What goes into the score

Product identity

A clear, recognisable product name and a known brand count in a product's favour. Raw deal-feed captions ("Loot! ₹499 only") are not products we can assess, and they score low or are held back entirely.

Specifications and value

We read the merchant's own listing and specifications and weigh what the product offers for the money — features, build, and category expectations at the current price. This is the core of the score.

Advertised discount

The discount comes from the merchant's own MRP versus the current price — never a figure we invented. A deeper genuine discount helps the score; an inflated or suspicious MRP is flagged in review and does not.

Editorial review

Our AI drafts an assessment — clarity, value, and how well the specs match the claims — and an editor checks it before it is published. The published review score reflects that combined judgement.

Confidence

Deals with enough supporting information (a real product page, images, a verdict) carry more confidence than a thin listing. Low-confidence entries are not featured as flagship stories.

Reading the number

Scores run out of 5. As a rough guide, products below 3.5 are rarely featured, 3.5–4.5 are solid picks worth a look, and 4.5+ are strong enough to become a flagship story. The score is a starting point — always read the full review, including the "who should skip this" section, before you buy.

What PickyScore is not

  • Not provided, verified, or endorsed by Amazon or any merchant.
  • Not based on hands-on testing. We assess specifications and listing details, not products we tested ourselves.
  • Not influenced by affiliate commissions or paid placement.
